Press Conferences

On November 27, 2006 The Accademia Italiana organized a Press Conference announcing the opening of the Bangkok Institute. The program started with a welcome speech given by Dr. Vincenzo Giubba, President of the Accademia Italiana, who was followed as speaker by Ajarn Paothong Thongchuea, the Academic Director of the Institute and Mr. Francesco Cappuccio, Head of the Department of Interior and Product Design and Graphic Design. Mr. Gianluca Greco, Italian Consul, brought greetings from the Italian Embassy.

A fashion show on the theme “Florence comes to Bangkok” followed the presentation, featuring fashions designed by a group of students from the Institute in Florence.

The collections included ”Menswear casual”: a completely hand-made line, with exposed seams to give an unfinished look, a classic cut and a clean line. Only Thai fabrics and materials were used, including: linen, hemp (for the bags), and kits, with colors inspired by the earth (on the theme of brown, beige, greenish, with dark seams).

The “Women’s sportswear” collection featured a modern line with a classic cut uniting typical Thai fabrics (silk and cotton) with jeans for a young effect. The colors ranged from gray to black and from white to sky blue.

The “Women’s wear – high fashion (haute couture)” collection boasted a line of evening wear, with an experimental flare, obtained through the use of geometric shapes. Thai fabric used: from silk to tulle.

Dr. Vincenzo Giubba, President of the Accademia commented: “Each collection presented a combination of Thai and Western cultures. These designs were created using exclusively Thai fabrics and materials, while interpreting a European look, perfectly in line with our aim to teach our students a combination of the two cultures.” Ajarn Paothong added "I myself will go to teach at our Institutes in Rome and Florence about Southeast Asian Textiles. It will be a good opportunity for students over there to learn about our Thai fabric. It is an honor for me to be in this position as it enables me to publicize our Thai culture to the world."
